Eigenvector Search Engine Algorithms

"DESIGNING THE ALGORITHM"
AN ARTISTIC & PHILOSOPHICAL APPROACH TO
SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Copyright © 2003-2007 SEO Image, Inc.

Algorithms can be thought of as designs. Therefore, those who optimize are the artists of the search engines. Search engines may look for their favorite artists or in our case the best optimized site. This approach to optimization, while somewhat philosophical, can be thought of as a way to ease the learning curve.

This tutorial assumes that you have some knowledge of Search Engine Optimization, and you should think of all the methods that are used while reading this. This tutorial is geared to inspire and help you think of how to implement what you know with what is written here. For most readers this is something you already know but never thought of this way. How creative can you be with your search engine optimization procedures?

Your Composition:
Like all the Old Master paintings, they all had a root, a base , or foundation that held the final product together. A basic structure to the website and all its contents. Now, to an Old Master you simply did not just throw paint on a canvas and call it done. Rather, you spent countless hours sometimes days designing the structure of the composition. The entire design was well thought out, and if you did not like the result, you would wipe the paint off and start all over from scratch, or as I will call it, a complete restructure.

Designing for search engine optimization is no different, and while some may see it as simply adding code here and there, it is not! It is a carefully thought out design and process that all SEO's go through and yet never sit down to realize that in fact we are designing with code.

Keep in mind that I am not talking about Web Design, I am focusing on the design of the code and structure of a Website that leads a site to rank highly. While web design may be a part of the picture, I am more concerned with the big picture; the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

STRUCTURE:
The structure of any web site is the basis for the algorithm. You must keep this in mind and think big to small. The main index page must connect the entire site, all links within a site should try to be on the index page, or a map linked off the main page. Internal pages should be thought of as branches on a tree and the index page as the root. All internal pages should be placed as close to the root index page as possible preferable in the same level or folder.

Now think of your structure in the Second Dimension rather than in the Third. You have a flat canvas and you need to get all of your pages on it. You need to design the code with keywords and alt tags and at the same time make the site work for the end user. This is the basis of our algorithm. The algorithm is what ranks the site.

We already have the copy for the body and several images already designed. Most sites have a good mix of content and images, sites that are all text have a slight tendency to rank better, but unfortunately these are not always read. There have been studies that show that people tend not to read everything on the Internet. Many businesses that we have worked with have found that no one ever read their information online except the bold phrases and brief summary paragraphs. This should be kept in mind when thinking of the site and its content. Most SEO companies do not relate this information to their clients, but rather relate just ranking information and suggestions for re –writing the text to rank. We believe that the client should be given all information when making sites optimized.

Now we must have a plan for the design. The main keywords are the focus of our design. The search engines look for keyword combinations at the beginning middle and the end of the document. It is our responsibility to design these to work for the search engines. SEO Image® has found that certain combination of text and alt tag placement works the best. Did you know that if your page has no text that Google would use the alt tags of images as the text. Alt tags on images have high prominence to the search engines in particular the most important one Google. A high-ranking algorithm takes this into account and designs the site with the alt tags and the body text as the priority.

So, if we have a site about search engine optimization and we use alt tags with the keywords strategically placed, to avoid over spamming the keyword, the page your ranking will increase. Links back to the site with these keywords are also a major importance. You can have a highly optimized site, but without links to it you will never reach the top.

The algorithm should be thought of as a musical beat, similar to a Para-Diddle. Keyword phrases, other text, other keywords, and keyword phrases repeated back words and then repeated forwards and back again. . .This is an algorithm. It is also an algorithm that when tweaked will produce amazing results for your site. You should take into account that images, their naming, directory paths and alt tags fall into this and make up the big picture. Overuse is not necessary. Remember once you have the algorithm it will be the links that help rank the site, and a few tweaks to the placement of the keywords.

The purpose of this tutorial is to get you , the reader, to create your own algorithm rather than trying to figure out what the search engines' algorithm is. If you create our own using all that you know about search engine optimization then your site will achieve its proper page rank. Of course you will still have to get your links after all the search engines of today are nothing more than link popularity checkers focusing on keyword links. But keep in mind that if you are a PR5 site than your optimization is the only way above the other PR5 sites.

Try and be creative with your techniques, vary them from page to page till you have achieved your goal. Do not fall into the trap of using what other people have done. Expand on what you have borrowed that seems to work for others. It will not work the same for you. We have seen the use of our meta tags methods on a number of sites by competitors of our clients, and they still only rank for one or two keywords and not the broader spectrum. This is because their algorithm is wrong for their content and those tags. The tags do not match the content in the title, body and meta tags. They need to re structure their sites. Hopefully after they read this they will.
